Colorado Horse Rescue's adoption program has placed over 1,500 horses into loving, permanent homes since 1986. Adoption can be one of the most rewarding and wonderful experiences of your life. We have horses that are rideable in all disciplines, as well as non-rideable horses that can fill the much-needed job of “companion,” acting as friends for other horses. Here at CHR, we believe that every horse should be loved and valued. At any given time, we have more than forty horses of various breeds, sizes, and ages available for adoption. Open your heart to a Colorado Horse Rescue horse, and adopt a partner for life! |

Rideable
Horses have been trained to accept a saddle, bridle and rider. Level of training ranges from newly started to finished trail horses. Horses may have limitations based on the rider’s size and experience level. Other considerations may include a horse's age, health, or temperament. |
 |
Under Evaluation
Horses may be under veterinary care for health issues or may be working with a trainer to evaluate temperament and level of rideability. |
 |
Unstarted / Training Needed
Unstarted horses have not been trained to accept a saddle, bridle or rider due to age, health, or temperament considerations. (Young horses at CHR are not started under saddle until they are 3 years old). Other horses have been trained to accept a saddle, bridle and/or rider but need further training because their schooling is not yet complete or they have been out of work for a time.

Companion Only
Horses have retired from all riding related activity and are suitable only as companions due to age or health related issues. Horses may require special diets and/or medication. |
 |
Minis
Miniature horse stand less than 40” at the withers. CHR adopts out minis as companions although they can be trained to drive small carts. CHR does not adopt out minis as riding horses. |
