Equine Crisis Intervention - Surrender Program
Horses come to Colorado Horse Rescue from many different sources; however, a large number of our horses are owner surrenders. These horses are turned over by owners who can no longer care for them. Surrendering your horse can be a very difficult decision to make, and we respect that. We are happy to answer questions you may have to help you make an informed decision.
Applications to CHR for owner surrenders are always accepted. However, it is important to understand that CHR may not be able to accept your horse immediately, if ever.
The 1st responsibility of CHR is to receive and rehabilitate horses seized by Animal Control Officers in Colorado and neighboring states. Space allowing, we will evaluate each surrender application based on available space and the level of need for each applicant.
You have decided that you need to surrender your horse – what now?
The first step in the surrender process is to complete and submit a surrender application. Once we receive your application, we will contact you regarding our current space & financial availability.
